BOUNTIFUL — His name is Trevor Webb, and the Davis High junior basketball standout introduced himself to the Viewmont Vikings Tuesday night in the Darts’ 53-38 win over the Vikings.

After Landon Horne gave Davis its first lead of the night at 7-6 and the Darts stopped the Vikings with 4.1 seconds left in the half, Webb caught a long pass in the corner behind the three-point line and gave a pump fake, then launched a bomb that hit nothing but the net and he did it in front of a raucous Viewmont crowd.

“I wanted to go baseline but it wasn’t there so I just went up and faked and then shot it,” Webb said.

After the shot went through, Webb trotted off the court giving the Viewmont student section a simple nod and grin.

“I love it when I get to play in front of a good crowd,” Webb said. “Playing in front of a loud crowd that is on you and against a good team like Viewmont is great. It’s fun.”

Webb made the next three Davis points from the free throw line to help the Darts push out to a 21-16 halftime lead and the skinny kid with the braces wasn’t quite done with his work.

To start the second half a missed Viewmont basket led to a rebound by Kyle Smith who found a darting Webb with a perfect pass for a layup.

“When Kyle gets the ball I just take off because I know he’s going to get a perfect pass to me,” Webb said. “That was one of those passes.”

In all Webb burned Viewmont for 13 points, five assists and two steals.

While Webb was spectacular and money in the clutch early and often he was not a one-man operation.

Horne was actually the leading scorer for Davis with 18 points and Tallon Burton picked up 10 points going 8-for-13 from the free throw line.

In all Davis outshot Viewmont 32-10.

“We’ve been trying to be aggressive on both ends of the floor,” said Davis coach Jay Welk.

“I think that leads to our guys getting to the foul line and having good things happen on defense.

“I’m very pleased with the effort.”

For Viewmont, the game started out nicely as they jumped out to 6-2 with 2:30 left in the first quarter.

“We did some good things early but we allowed them back in the game,” said Viewmont coach Jeff Emery. “You can’t do that against a good team.

“We were in it for most of the game. We just need to get back to work.”

Viewmont was led by Blake Wilkinson’s 14 points which included a nifty up and under move with two minutes to play in the first half to cut the Davis lead to 16-14.

But the Darts came down the floor and Josh Van Wezzup nailed a three pointer to turn away the Viking threat.

“Viewmont is a very good team and I’m happy we got the win,” Welk said.

As for Webb, he is not ready to rest on his exciting night in Bountiful.

“This was a good win for us but now we have to get ready for Friday’s game against Fremont.”

While Davis plays Fremont Friday, the Vikings will look to get back in the win column when they travel to Roy.
