BOUNTIFUL — Anthony Tuli did all he could and the Viewmont Vikings bounced back into the winners column Friday night with a 27-6 whipping of Roy.
Viewmont fell behind early as Roy scored and missed its extra points. The Vikings then tacked on the next 27 points to put the game away.
Tuli scored on runs of 5 and 40 yards in the second quarter and Austin Duncan added a field goal to give Viewmont a 17-6 halftime lead.
That lead was extended in the second half as Tuli found the end zone from 8 yards out and Duncan added his second field goal of the night.
“What we have really emphasized this week are just the things that we can control,” said Viewmont coach Brad Lloyd. “We have been focusing on our effort, our technique and our ability to be mentally involved in the game.
With the number of injuries on the team escalating, Lloyd said, “With those three our four guys that are out right now that is eight starting positions we don’t have, because they play both ways.
“We like the guys that have been coming in and they have done an admirable job, but when you don't have your key guys who have a lot of experience then it obviously makes a difference. and you can see some of that on the defensive side.
“The thing that I’m really really pleased with is our front guys on both sides. They have really taken this team on their shoulders and particularly our offensive guys, they are getting it done up front.”
Viewmont will wrap up the regular season Friday night against Clearfield in hopes of earning a home state playoff game.
