SALT LAKE CITY — It was that shaking of the head by a West football player that told the story, really.

Woods Cross had just scored another touch down and a West High football player stood in the middle of the Panthers’ field and just shook his head in disgust. In the meantime, the Wildcats were whipping it up on the sidelines and all over the field as Woods Cross rebounded from its loss to Bonneville to click on all cylinders against 5A West, winning 36-3.

“I’m so proud of the way this team came back after last week’s game,” said Woods Cross coach Fred Fernandes. “They worked all week at practice and were determined to come out and show what they were capable of. I think they did that tonight.”

Woods Cross came out immediately and grabbed control of the game moving down the field capping its first scoring drive with a one yard plunge by CJ Corry. Tyler Parson, who sliced up the West defense all night, connected with Parker Rose to give WX a 8-0 lead.

Parson completed 15 of 22 passes for 102 yards and one touchdown.

A West fumble recovered by Masen Fenn led to another Corry score. That drive saw Parson complete four passes for 28 yards in setting up the score.

The score was pushed to 22-0 when Fenn’s halfback pass was good for 58 yards to Darchon Taggart.

West picked up a field goal just before halftime but the game was completely controlled by the Wildcats.

In the third quarter, Parson chucked a score to Taggart and then Rose scored to cap off the Wildcat assault.

Mark Evans was a strong offensive weapon for Woods Cross catching six passes for 44 yards.

In the trenches, Woods Cross offensive and defensive fronts owned West pushing the Panthers all over the field. John Kendrick led the defense with 13 tackles.

“We knew we had to be ready and the guys really had a sense of urgency tonight,” Fernandes said. “They came out and executed. We beat a good, big team. This is a great win for us.”
