LAYTON -- Ask someone from outside of Utah where Davis County is and you're likely to get blank looks. But tie its location to the Great Salt Lake, and a bright look usually appears. The Davis County Convention & Visitors Bureau is taking advantage of the big salty lake, which comprises most of Davis County's land area. A new brochure, "Home of the Great Salt Lake: Davis County, Utah" is due to premier shortly.

The four-fold, color bro-chure will see wide distribution. In fact, CVB executive director Barbara Riddle said 275,000 copies are being printed for distribution to nearly 2,000 locations.

They'll be placed in brochure holder stands owned by Certified Folder Display, replenished periodically, she said.

With funding support from the Utah Office of Tourism, brochures will be distributed to Idaho, Montana, the Spokane area of Washington, Northern Nevada, the North Lake Tahoe area as well as Sacramento-Redding areas in California, plus Oregon and Arizona.

Some of the brochures will also be targeted to Southern Utah, Riddle said.

It highlights the many activities available, ranging from Cherry Hill Waterpark and Resort to mountain biking, hiking and horseback riding. Bird watching is popular on the Great Salt Lake and elsewhere, the brochure notes, with 250 species of birds making their home in the county.

Experiencing the GSL by visiting Antelope Island State Park is highlighted, including the closeup views of wildlife and other attractions via the Wildlife Safari.

In the panel on shopping, the brochure says: "Whether you love a bustling full-size mall or an intimate specialty shop, Davis County has stores to satisfy every shopper. Tour the shops of downtown Bountiful to find unique treasures or visit Layton Hills Mall for the ultimate shopping experience."

Ski 'n Tee is a chance for visitors to ski in the morning and golf in the afternoon from March until early May, highlighting the county's nine public and private courses, and proximity to area ski resorts.

The 250-plus restaurants, museums, theaters, art galleries and other venues are noted, while annual events on Antelope Island are also noted.

For more information on what's going on in the county, visit the CVB's website at www.davisareautah.travel or go to the CVB offices at 748 W. Heritage Park Blvd., Suite 201, or call 774-8200.
