From Lehi to North Salt Lake, the Jordan River is unique.
Mayors from Davis, Salt Lake and Utah Counties will kick-off the Blueprint Jordan River effort by taking a quick trip down the Jordan River on May 5.
Then, on May 8, Davis County residents are invited to attend a workshop on Blueprint Jordan River at the Day Riverside Library, 1575 W. 1000 North in Salt Lake City, at 6 p.m.
Blueprint Jordan River is the first effort to develop a publicly supported vision for the future of the entire Jordan River corridor.
All 15 municipalities and three counties along the river are participating. Envision Utah officials note that Denver, Boise and other communities have reclaimed their urban rivers, and Utah can too. Salt Lake County is sponsoring the effort, and Envision Utah is facilitating it.
Blueprint Jordan River aims to learn the most broadly supported ideas on how to enhance the river as well as the surrounding trails and the form of new buildings.
In addition to the workshop at the Day Riverside Library, others will be held in Sandy, Salt Lake Community College, Bluffdale, West Valley City and Saratoga Springs.
All workshops will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held the first two weeks of May.:
The workshop results will become a vision for the river corridor. The vision will then be translated into an action plan to shape the river corridor now and for the next few decades.
Those unable to attend a workshop are encouraged to complete an important survey at www.blueprint.slco.org. (The survey will be online starting April 28.) The survey results will also help craft the vision for the river corridor.
With creativity and leadership, the state can turn a sometimes neglected and under-appreciated resource into one of the signature elements of the Wasatch Front.
