BOUNTIFUL -- The South Davis Community Hospital (SDCH) is preparing for a new look.
A rebranding is underway which will signify that although the hospital has opened additional medical centers in recent years, each center functions under the canopy of the SDCH and, like the threads of a fabric, all the parts are interwoven with each other. It also symbolizes the vital, interweaving relationship the hospital shares with the Davis community.
Four-year-old Bountiful-based Fluid Studio will be doing the rebranding, which will take about one year to complete. Rebranding will include new logos that will be used for the hospital and each of its medical centers. The logos -- containing the weaving, intertwined look of fabric -- will look alike but with different color schemes, a different color used for each medical facility.
Marketing Director Susan Jensen said the hospital has played an important role in Davis County since its inception, many decades ago, and that the hospital now has reached a stage where rebranding is needed.
"The hospital needs a refreshing," she said. "We need to give it a new face, a more complete face, tie it all together."
Paul Evans, the hospital's director of community relations, said it'd be difficult to put a price tag on the rebranding at this time but that any money used for the project will not distract from the hospital's first priority.
"We are not allocating funds from patient care for something like this," he emphasized.
Fluid Studio manager John Dye said he believes the rebranding will go a long way to further the work of the hospital, and make people aware that all of its medical centers are appendages to SDCH.
The rebranding, which "comes in stages," Dye explained, will consist of everything from business cards to new pamphlets and signage and everything in between.
The rebranding is nothing new to Fluid, which, besides Davis County, has clientele outside the state and has experienced continued growth since its inception in 2000.
First established in the late 1950s, the South Davis Community Hospital has seen many changes over the years, namely the additions of its various medical centers. Its role has also changed and evolved to meet new needs and challenges.
It had been the only hospital in South Davis until Lakeview Hospital opened its doors in 1976.
South Davis continued to serve an important function, such as in the areas of specialized, long-term care for senior citizens, and others.
New roles have also been added over the years, including "satellite" centers. These centers include the Inn at Barton Creek, Orchard Cove Dementia Center, South Davis Home Health, Hospice of Bountiful and the hospital itself, located at 401 S. 400 E., which is a long term acute care (LTAC) center.
Evans said the hospital and its facilities, which is pioneering new medical advancements, will undergo other changes within the next few months that hint at new and expanded technologies that will greatly assist both doctors and their patients.
Besides the ability of patient-care, however, the hospital serves the Davis community in another way: it employs roughly 500 people, making it one of the county's largest employers.
But Evans said he doesn't want to brag about the success of the hospital -- which functions under a board of directors -- and quickly admits that if it wasn't for the support of the community, the hospital's success would be null and void.
"We very much appreciate the support of the community," he said, and the countless hours of volunteerism.
The complete rebranding of the hospital, which started late last year, should be completed by early fall.
