Three contenders for the Layton mayor's slot had already filed their intentions as of Monday morning, along with six for two council seats.

While Layton is generating by far the most interest, especially with three-term mayor Jerry Stevenson opting not to run again, there are incumbents and newcomers across the county who have officially announced their intentions.

Hopeful election victors come November have until Monday, Aug. 15, to file with their respective city recorder's offices.

That's the deadline for this year's elections, which are all municipal in nature. All mayoral slots are up for election and several city council seats in each community.

Only Fruit Heights is not seeing candidate filings. For many years, it has conducted political party conventions in September for the Pine Cone and Sage Brush parties.

Here is the rundown, as of Monday morning, in all South Davis communities and the three largest North Davis communities:

Bountiful: Incumbent Mayor Joe Johnson has filed, along with council member incumbents R. Fred Moss and Thomas B. Tolman. John M. (Marc) Knight is also seeking one of the two city council seats up for grabs.

Centerville: Two have filed for the mayor's position, Michael Johnson and Ron Russell. No one had filed for the two open city council seats.

Clearfield: Incumbent Mayor Tom Waggoner has filed as has incumbent council member Jim Barlow. There are two council seats open.

Farmington: Incumbent Mayor David Connors and challenger Art Parmley have filed, while incumbent council members Susan Holmes and David Hale have also filed for the two open council seats.

Kaysville: Incumbent Mayor Brian Cook is being challenged by incumbent council member Neka Roundy. No one has filed for the two council seats.

Layton: Three are seeking the mayor's slot, all incumbent council members, Steve Curtis, Steve Handy and Renny Knowlton.

Handy and Curtis, if they are unsuccessful in their mayoral bids, could complete the remaining two years in their council terms. Knowlton would be up for re-election to his council seat.

Seeking the council slots are: Carl Thompson, Michael Bouwhuis, Scott Frietag, Mi-chael Courtney, Kathy Hyde and Loran Hubbard.

North Salt Lake: Mayoral hopefuls are incumbent Kay Briggs and Juan Arce-Larreta. For the two council seats, Brian Elkins has filed.

West Bountiful: Rex Tunbridge is seeking one of two council seats open. No incumbents or others have filed.

Woods Cross: Mayor Jerry Larrabee has filed his intentions to run again. There are two four-year and one two-year seat council seat open. Council member Tamra Dailey has filed along with Jill Evans for the council seats.

Filings are taking place in all of the county's 15 cities. Information about those communities not listed here is available by calling respective city clerks.

A complete list of those who have filed their intentions to run for city offices will appear in next Tuesday's paper.
