NORTH SALT LAKE — It’s not as easy to keep a yard green and growing in the heat of late summer, but city officials here are ready to show their appreciation of residents’ efforts.

North Salt Lake is currently accepting nominations for their city beautification awards, which according to the city’s website honors the residents and businesses who “have helped beautify the city through landscaping.” Nominations can be e-mailed in to council member Ron Gordon now through Sept. 11, and residents can nominate more than one home or business

“We want to recognize some of those people who are making efforts to make our city a great place to live,” said Gordon. Nominations can be e-mailed to him at rbgordon.jr@gmail.com, and should include the name and address of the business or homeowner (a picture is optional).

Though the addition of businesses make North Salt Lake’s competition somewhat unusual among beautification awards, Gordon believes they’re an important addition.

“Many businesses are very good neighbors within our city,” he said. “They’re an integral part of it, and we want to recognize their efforts along with those of residents.”

After the nomination window closes on Sept. 11, winners will be chosen to receive plaques from the city council.

“We as a city council recognize that much of the beauty in this city is individuals going out of their way to beautify their yards,” said “We want to let them know that their efforts make a difference and are appreciated.”
