FARMINGTON — In a couple of weeks Farmington residents will start to see the beginnings of what will be one of the largest mixed used developments in South Davis, complete with a large condominium complex, Harmons and 14-screen Cinemark movie theater.

Project master plans were approved Tuesday, by the Farmington City Council, which will set in motion the mixed use zone. Park Lane Village condominiums, Harmons, and Cinemark will be the first to take shape starting this summer around Farmington’s FrontRunner stop. Park Lane Village will be on the north side of Park Lane.

“This has been a project Farmington has been involved in and excited about for a number of years,” said Farmington Major Scott Harbertson. “With the economy the way it was everything got put on hold, now we are moving ahead.”

The road to the development will begin construction in two weeks, and construction on the Park Lane Condominiums will start May or June. The first set of condominiums should be ready for renters by the end of this year or the first of next year. The other three complexes should be operating within the next 18-24 months.

The design for Park Lane Village includes four sets of condominiums with 324 units, which will have a combination of single and family units. Sixty percent of the residents will have access to a garage, while the others will have covered parking. A clubhouse, with a pool and splash park, is also included in the design.

“Park Lane Village is going to be a very upscale, very impressive project,” said Harbertson. “The way they have situated with the parking tucked back in was very well thought out. It will also be friendly and walkable. We were very impressed with the developer’s designs.”

Farmington residents will be able to stroll from their condominiums, in Park Lane Village, to the office and retail developments on the south side of Park Lane. The total project is more than a million square feet. The Station Park Development will include 925,000 square feet of retail and 200,000 square feet of office.

“Station Park Development dwarfs what South Davis has ever seen,” said David Petersen, Farmington Community Development Director. “This development is a major deal and it is moving forward. We are very excited.”

Harmons, and Cinemark, will begin project construction this summer. The theater will include Cinemark’s latest XD extreme Digital Cinema, which will be the first one of it’s kind in the state. A number of other deals will be announced shortly, and will also start construction late summer in preparation for a grand opening spring 2011.

“We’re very excited,” said Craig Trottier, vice president of Development, CenterCal Properties. “This is going to be a new shopping experience at a level of quality and tenants that are not currently available in the market.”
