CENTERVILLE — The 14-screen megaplex and mixed use project planned for this city is moving forward.
In a story first reported in the Clipper just over two months ago, Centerville City officials confirmed the theater project is in the works.
It is reportedly being built by the Larry H. Miller Group. However, they have not officially made that announcement, said U.S. Development’s Dan Bridenstine. He is CEO of the Layton firm that is developing the project on 28 acres on the southeast corner of 1250 West and Parrish Lane.
“We’re still proceeding, going through the development agreement process with the city,” he said. “We’re working on leasing, financing on the various portions.”
Those portions, in addition to the theater, include at least 252 apartments. That phase could grow if more land is added, Bridenstine said.
The multi-family units, described as “upscale” previously by City Community & Economic Development Director Cory Snyder, would be built in 12 units, 24 apartments per building, on a 10-acre portion of the project.
Retail tenants are also being considered, Bridenstine said Tuesday. “We’re in dialogue with some restaurants and small retailers,” he said.
While not giving any more specifics, he said that could include a mix of local and national companies.
“We’ve mostly pursued the theater deal,” Bridenstine said. “We’re hoping to start the first component (theaters) this summer, and the apartments in the fall.”
It had previously been hoped the theaters could open by Thanksgiving. However, their construction is projected to take 10 months, putting completion at next spring.
Telephone calls to the Larry H. Miller Group were not answered.
Of the project, Centerville Mayor Ron Russell said in December, “It will be an entertainment component that is currently missing in South Davis.”
“We’re pretty keyed to this location, seems to be a good one,” he said. “We’re still pursuing financing, going farther down the road” in completing details before actual construction can start, the CEO added.
This theater project could be built within only a few miles of one recently announced for the Park Lane Village development, around Farmington’s FrontRunner station.
It is projected to include a 14-screen Cinemark movie theater complex, a Harmons grocery store and condominiums.
